The Arc of NJ's Interim Executive Director Michael Prendergast released the following statement in response to the House passing, and the President signing, a budget bill with substantial cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.
The Arc of New Jersey is deeply disappointed that the House of Representatives passed, and then the President signed, a budget bill that will have very serious and negative consequences for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The budget bill includes drastic cuts to both Medicaid and SNAP and this will now create a large funding gap in our State Budget, forcing New Jersey to make painful cuts that will hurt the state’s most vulnerable. Medicaid funds everything from group homes and day programs to employment services and respite. It is the backbone of our service delivery system. So while this week was difficult, we stand ready to fight again tomorrow and do everything we can to ensure needed services and supports to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities who rely on them. We know you will continue to stand by us as we do.
