Identifying and Improving Barriers to Healthcare for Individuals with I/DD

In December 2013, the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) released a policy brief on addressing the health care needs of youth with autism and other developmental disabilities as they transition to adulthood.
Meg Traci, Ph.D., the Project Director of The Montana Disability and Health Program at The University of Montana Rural Institute, will be joining us to discuss the current barriers to receiving adequate healthcare. Dr. Traci will introduce specific issues and show techniques to help resolve those barriers to make healthcare to help increase the number of individuals with IDD who receive healthcare regularly. These techniques include ways to make facilities more accessible and health forms that are more user-friendly to individuals with IDD. She will spotlight resources and tools that can be helpful in reviewing current facilities, documents, and programs to ensure they are effective for everyone.
