What I Need to Know About: Criminal Justice Reform and Pre-Trial Detention Hearing in New Jersey

Since the passage of the Criminal Justice Reform measures in New Jersey, monetary bail options have effectively ended. In its place is a system intended to evaluate an offender’s likelihood to return for court hearings and danger to the community, resulting often in a quicker release pending trial. Assistant Prosecutor Judson Hamlin will explain the changes to the system and describe the pre-trial detention hearing process in place so support providers and families can understand how the system works, what will happen in the initial stages if a person with IDD is arrested and charged with a criminal offense.
