X-WR-CALDESC:Sibling Support and the Importance of the Sibling Relationship
: Presented by Katie Foley\, Advocate for The Arc of Northeastern Pennsylv
ania. The sibling relationship is often the longest relationship a person
with a disability will have. They are usually the people who will continue
care after the parents have passed away. Yet siblings find little or no s
upport throughout their lifetime. They find they have their own questions
and concerns for the future\, themselves and their siblings with a disabil
ity. This webinar will give an overview of that relationship and how we ca
n help support and nurture the bond between siblings and encourage the adv
ocates already in place inside the family.\n\nKatie Foley is an advocate f
or The Arc of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Her education has been in Communi
cations with a focus on theater and elementary education techniques. She i
s a founding member of the parent group\, ALIGN. She has also written a ch
ildren’s book\, titled\, You May Never Be French. The book reimagines the
symptoms of Autism through a cultural lens. She has also written articles
for Autism Parenting Magazine about the importance of theatre for children
and adults with Autism and other learning disabilities\, among other topi
cs. She is also a certified facilitator of the Sibshops\, a national progr
am run by The Sibling Support Project. The program promotes the support of
