Mirled Joseph, RN
Nominated by Anita Kaloyerakis
Mirled Joseph was a Godsend and lifesaver for me in April, May, June and part of July 2020. My brother Geoffrey, who is 64 and has Down syndrome, resides in the Wayne group Home of The Arc of bergen & Passaic. He was diagnosed with the Coronavirus in the beginning of April and was hospitalized for 5 weeks, with close to a week on a ventilator. The doctors were not sure he would survive. geoffrey was then in a rehabilitation facility for 5 weeks and then with me for 5 weeks to work with him to get him ready to return to his home.
I was probably in touch with Mirled on a daily basis throughout this entire ordeal. She talked me "off the ledge" more times than I can count. She would calm me down and was sympathetic to what I was going through. She always answered my phone calls and texts promptly even though she was handling many other residences with many other people. I would call or text her early in the morning, late at night, weekends, holidays, and she would respond every time. Mirled would often call the hospital and/or rehab facility for me if I did not understand what the doctors and nurses were telling me. Then she would get back to me and explain in terms that I could understand. Mirled is a wonderful, knowledgeable, professional nurse and person, and she is my Hero!
