Communications/Public Relations

PUBLIC RELATIONS
Public and media relations play a vital role in The Arc of New Jersey's ability to maintain itself as an effective advocacy organization. Public Relations and Communications staff work to keep the media informed about The Arc of New Jersey's position statements on important issues, and to regularly publicize the good work of its members, volunteers, and staff. Public Relations and Communications staff also work with community groups, corporations and statewide agencies to ensure that the organization's message is clear, consistent and well-publicized.

COORDINATION OF ANNUAL EVENTS
Public Relations staff coordinate a number of annual events that include:

Annual Membership Meeting
Annual Awards Program
Step Up For The Arc Annual Statewide Walkathon
The Arc Awareness Month

MEMBER SERVICES
A statewide membership database and agency mailing lists are maintained by PR/Communications staff. Member registrations sent by the local county chapters are processed and assistance is provided to those chapters in coordinating membership drives, meetings and written materials.

In addition, Executive staff and Program Directors represent the organization's membership on a variety of task forces and committees.

CHAPTER SERVICES
Public Relations/Communications staff act as a communication link between the local county chapters, the state chapter and the national chapter of The Arc to ensure that information flows smoothly between these entities, particularly information in the areas of membership, public relations and resources for families. Staff also works with chapters on corrdinating statewide public awareness campaigns and events, including The Arc Awareness Month in March and the Annual Step Up For The Arc Statewide Walkathon.

ELECTRONIC AND PRINT MEDIA
Public Relations/Communications staff maintains The Arc of New Jersey's website and its presence on social networking presence on Facebook and Twitter. Staff also oversees The ArcLink New Jersey, and coordinates the publication of the bi-annual membership newsletter, Progress.
