Voting Information for Individuals with
Disabilities and Their Families
Elected officials regularly make decisions that are critical to the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families, including decisions about health care, education, justice and
civil rights. Because of this, the right to vote is one of the most cherished and valuable rights we have. By voicing our opinions as voters, the disability
community can make a huge difference in the everyday lives of individuals with disabilities. While the act of voting does not guarantee that our preferences will
prevail, every choice not to vote is a choice not to participate in the decision-making process - and we, as a community, must participate in the decision-making. The issues are just too important!
This November, elections for all 120 seats of the New Jersey Legislature will be held. This includes both the Senate and the Assembly. There is also a ballot question concerning a change in wording in the New Jersey Constitution. The outcome of any election makes a huge difference with regard to our issues.
The publications and links offered below are meant as a resource to answer questions you might
have about the voting process and to give individuals with disabilities and their family members the tools necessary to ensure that they continue to have a say in who will be making some of the most
important decisions for our community.
