Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are a cluster of permanent, non-curable brain disorders and physical malformations, including mental retardation,
that is caused by women drinking alcohol during pregnancy. FASD is 100% preventable if the woman does not drink during pregnancy. The effects of FASD
are life-long. It is the most commonly-known preventable cause of birth defects that result in mental retardation. Alcohol-Related Neurodevelopment Disorders
(ARND) or Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE) are also characterized by organic brain damage and some physical malformations, but mental retardation is not always present.
The FASD Info Center is a statewide resource library that contains videos, newsletters, monographs, studies, posters, and Internet links on FASD. All the
materials are available for loan. Click here to see a list of our resource materials.
