COSAC 26th Annual Issues in Autism Conference, May 15-17, Atlantic City Convention Center  www.njcosac.org

NJAMHA's Annual Conference, "Exploring the World of Mental Health", April 22 and 23 at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place, Iselin, NJ.
Day 2 will offer a focus on assessment, treatment and services for individuals dually diagnosed with developmental disabilities and mental illness.

The track will include:
"Functional Assessments" - Two professors will introduce an interdisciplinary approach for assessing dually diagnosed individuals and developing strategies for treatment and services.
"Healing Crowd" -- An author and trainer will explain the Interactive Behavioral Training Model, its efficacy when utilized in treatment of dually diagnosed individuals and how to begin and maintain a group.
 
A. Kathryn Power, Director of the Center for Mental Health of SAMSHA will kick off Day 2, which also will include a focus on children's services and maximizing revenue and success.

On Day 1 of the conference, keynote speaker Lizzie Simon, author of "Detour- My Bipolar Trip in 4D," will deliver a dynamic description of her cross-country tour to interview young people successfully coping with bipolar disorder. Heather Howard, Commissioner of the Department of Health and Senior Services, is invited to discuss the Rationalizing Health Care Resources report. Tracks on Day 1 focus on housing, recovery, co-occurring disorders and improving performance.

The Arc of New Jersey's Mainstreaming Medical Care Program annual conference on health care issues for individuals with developmental disabilities. May 30th at the Westin, Princeton. Click here for all the details.

Tax Highlights for People with Disabilities
The IRS has published booklets and brochures in order to assist people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. The publication Living and Working with Disabilities, points out certain tax credits, deductions or benefits that may be available. The IRS also provided help in preparing tax returns for those who qualify. Please visit the IRS website for various information.
